Our Sustainable Ranch
We are stewards of land that will be a huge project to rehabilitate and get completely into production.
In late 2021, we finally found a small ranch just outside of Devine Texas … with A LOT of potential. We purchased 19 acres of over-grown pasture, intent on creating a holistically managed, multi-species ranch focused on animal welfare and soil health. The property was inundated with South Texas brush which chokes out the beneficial native bunch grasses vital to nutrient and carbon cycling.
In 2022, we managed to hand-clear brush and limb up trees on about five acres of pasture, along with paths for perimeter- and cross-fencing. Two cows, ten sheep and four goats free-grazed the entire ranch and partially cleared underbrush and smaller trees. We’ve mulched and created bio-char from spent trees and branches to return organic matter back to the soil. Native bunch grasses have sprouted and our pasture is improving.
Clearing the land to provide access to additional pasture is vital to our goal or increasing livestock.

Devine – our small town
Devine is thirty miles southwest of San Antonio in southeast Medina County. Close to military installations, it is home to many veterans. There are also many descendants of original settlers who still make their home in this small, rural town. Devine’s history is rich in agriculture. This area is the gateway to the Winter Garden Region, a South Texas agricultural area from the southwest of San Antonio to north of Laredo. The Winter Garden region is known for its year-round production of vegetables, corn and small grains. Medina County is also a large livestock producer (poultry, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats).
